Lori and Seth Goldberg, along with their two young daughters, turned their 10 years of experience with humanitarian work in Haiti and West Africa into Global Family Philanthropy in 2009.
And the Figaros – Raguel, his wife Calmie, and their three children (in photo) – may be more than family. We could not have realized our own dream without the Figaros’ gracious offering to build the GFP home, school and family education enter within 16 acres of their land in Les Cayes, Haiti. The meeting between the two families was fate. In 2003, the Goldbergs played an instrumental role in rebuilding a school in Les Cayes. They helped repair and paint the structure, weld new desks, hung new chalkboards and build water wells and latrines. They also helped provide training for teachers as well as uniforms, books and school supplies to the children. After graduating from college in the United States in 2008, Raguel Figaro returned to Haiti with his family. They were determined to give back and share their knowledge with the community. So they decided to head a school, which just happened to be the same one the Goldbergs helped rebuild. There was an immediate connection between the two families upon meeting. They shared the same dreams and values. Both the Goldbergs and Figaros now head the GFP home, school and family education center. But their work has only begun.

“My goal is to connect and love the kids in Haiti. I won’t stop until Haiti is a stable community with less poverty, less crime and less orphans. Global Family Philanthropy’s mission is to touch the hearts of others, create a safe place for orphans and love them." — Hannah Goldberg "I don’t want any child to be without love. On my first volunteer trip to Haiti, a little girl was offered to me. At that moment, I knew I had to do more for the abandoned children of Haiti. Our new found family inspires me, my husband and two daughters everyday." — Lori Goldberg "My first volunteer trip to Haiti was a powerful reminder that abject poverty exists very close to home. Having traveled many times to several West African countries, I had experienced poverty in many forms. Haiti has many of the same issues to deal with along with the added difficulty of being an island and lacking a strong government. I have come to understand their vast problems and how I can best affect change." — Seth Goldberg "When I share things with our children in Haiti it makes my heart feel good. I love to see the smiles on their faces. They love and cherish each small gift. Haiti and our family will be in my heart forever." — Olivia Goldberg |
