Global Family Philanthropy gave me the opportunity to dare to step out of my comfort zone and I am forever changed." "I chose Global Family Philanthropy as the group to team up with when traveling to Haiti because I wanted to make a positive impact on the dire situation in Haiti with a grass roots organization I could trust 100%. Lori and her team made sure we travelled safely while still being involved on the front lines with the Haitian children who need our help most." — Alex Wolin, Volunteer (December 2009-January 2010) "Going to Haiti with GFP was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Before landing in Port au Prince, I was very nervous and didn't know what to expect, but soon I realized how safe we were and I never once felt uncomfortable or threatened. The media portrays events in Haiti in the most exaggerated manner, but once you get to Haiti you are able to truly experience the splendor of the island and meet all of its beautiful, gracious inhabitants. The GFP family wholeheartedly gives their assistance, encouragement and friendship to the people they help. Seeing these wonderful people bringing so much love and support down the Haitian people will forever be one of my most beautiful memories. Unlike other organizations, there is a very real, tangible connection with the people in Haiti and a direct relationship forms where both sides continually learn from each other. A most incredible human connection." "When someone tells you that an experience will be 'life-changing,' I think it is nearly impossible to fathom the ways in which your life will actually change. I had traveled to a few other countries before my visit to Haiti, but never to somewhere so impoverished. I really had no idea what to expect. I could never have guessed how greatly visiting the GFP home and simply being in Haiti would impact my life. The people are beautiful, the land is beautiful, what GFP is accomplishing is truly beautiful, and there is never a lack of wonderful, gracious people in need of help. Though I could never really put my 'Haitian Experience' into words (at least ones that would do it any justice), I can say this: less than one week after arriving back in the States, my next ticket to Haiti was already booked. And I think that says it all." — Maria Zorn, Volunteer (February 2011) |
